News Release Symantec Expands in Europe with New Offices in Spain Appoints Former Lotus Executive as Country Manager for Spain and Portugal CUPERTINO,Calif. -Sep. 14, 2000- Symantec Corp. (Nasdaq: SYMC) today announced it has strengthened its presence in Europe with the opening of two offices in Spain and the appointment of Joaquín Reixa as country manager for Spain and Portugal. "Spain is the fifth largest IT market in Europe," says Paolo Ardemagni, vice president sales and marketing of Symantecıs Southern Europe and Emerging Markets region. "Over the last four years we have built strong revenues in Iberia despite not having a local presence. Now, with offices in Madrid and Barcelona under Joachinıs leadership I am sure we will continue to grow." In his new position, Reixa is responsible for developing relationships with business and channel partners and growing Symantecıs share of both the consumer and enterprise Internet security markets. Before joining Symantec, Reixa was sales manager, Spain for Lotus Development where he more than doubled revenue in less than two years. He also oversaw the development of Lotus Developmentıs customer services and technical support functions in Spain. The new offices in Spain are part of Symantecıs expansion in Europe. In recent months offices have been opened in the Czech Republic, Hungary and Austria. Symantecıs Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) region employees 800 people in 20 countries and generates around $200 million a year more than a quarter of Symantecıs worldwide revenue a 32 percent increase over the previous year.
