Symantec Network Security 7100 Series Earns Highest Possible Scores in Comprehensive CRN Review
Symantec's First Line of Intrusion Prevention Appliances Receives "CRN Test Center Recommended" Designation
CUPERTINO, Calif. - Aug. 10, 2004 -
Symantec Corp. (NASDAQ: SYMC), the global leader in information security,
today announced that CRN, a CMP United Business Media publication,
has awarded Symantec Network Security 7100 Series the highest possible
scores for its comprehensive review of the solution.
CRN reviewed the Symantec Network Security 7120 appliance,
one of three models in the Symantec Network Security 7100 Series,
and awarded the solution with five out of five stars for both the
technical merit and Symantec's channel program. As a result, Symantec
Network Security 7100 Series earned the "CRN Test Center
Recommended" designation, an honor bestowed only solutions with an
average of the two ratings equaling four stars or greater.
"We are honored to have Symantec Network Security 7100 Series recognized
by CRN," said Enrique Salem, senior vice president of network
and gateway solutions, Symantec. "The results of this comprehensive
review confirm that Symantec's first line of intrusion prevention
appliances provide a high level of robust protection against today's
blended threats while also offering real benefits to our channel partners."
Appearing in the CRN August 2, 2004 issue, the review praised
the Symantec Network Security 7100 Series on several of its key technologies
and capabilities.
According to the review, "The [Symantec Network Security 7100 Series] offers several fully scalable appliances with throughput ranges from 50 Mbps to 2 Gbps that can meet the security needs of any business, no matter the size."
In addition, the review singled out the product's Intrusion Mitigation Unified Network Engine (IMUNE™), which protects against known and unknown attacks: "Several technological advances help to make the 7100 series unique in the security appliance market…Symantec's network threat mitigation architecture combines anomaly, signature, statistical and vulnerability detection techniques to secure networks from known and unknown attacks. In other words, the 7100 series can prevent attacks and outbreaks even if no virus or anomaly signatures exist."
