Search Tips

To perform a simple search, type one or more keywords in the Search Query box in the upper right-hand corner of the page and click GO.

Use the following tips to make your search more effective.

Selecting Keywords
For optimal results, select keywords as follows:

  • Use specific keywords; avoid general terms. For example, "CodeRed" produces better results than "worm."
  • Enter keyword phrases, as opposed to a single keyword. For example, "virus removal tools" produces better results than "remove."

Using Exact Phrases
To focus your search on an exact phrase, place double quotation marks (" ") around the phrase. Performing a phrase search will generally limit the number of results per query significantly. For example, a search on "virus definitions" will only return pages with that exact phrase.

Narrowing Your Search by Topic Categories
Should your initial keyword query fail to return the desired document on the first page of results, consider browsing the set of categories (Products, Support, Viruses & Risks, About Symantec or All Results) displayed on the right-hand side of the results page.

Refining Your Search by Segment
To rerun your query on content from a different customer segment, simply click the appropriate tab (Enterprise, Small Business, Home & Home Office, Partners, or All Sites) on the right-hand side of the results page or from the dropdown next to the search box.
